Excelsior, Toby's bar, Purple haze, Basement, the Casbah... Karachi's night life has become the envy of the region. Bars, nightclubs and dance halls have sprouted across the city, with medium class hotels of Saddar as the hub of all the naughty nocturnal activity. Exotic cabaret artists are descending on the city in droves from countries as far apart as the Phillipines and Turkey, with more than a smattering of sultry home-grown talent from Karachi's very own Preedy Street.

Enjoy Karaoke nights at Purple haze, DA Country golf club Enjoy Live music bands, usually on random Saturday nights at Bread people bakery & cafe, Coffee day Enjoy Theme Nights at Nadia Cafe (Marriott hotel) Enjoy Theatre at Arts Council Live band playing all types of music from 8:30pm-11pm. Live Ghazal band from 11pm-2am at PC hotel, Karachi Club. HOT 'N SPICY (HOTTEST PLACE) - CLIFTON KARACHI

“Hot and spicy” the no doubt hottest place known for its spicy rolls.Previously at Deltons, Khadda Market, now opened up at Kh-Rahat,Phase 7.
At Khadda market place they do have a dining hall as well, but the open area opposite to the hall, is more fun to sit at and have bbq and rolls in open air.
The order can however be place while sitting in the car and most of teh poeple have the food inside as well.
At teh new branch there’s no seating arrangement only takeaways or eat inside the car.
A sure to visit place incase you have not yet.Yummy rolls, Shawarma, Burger, Fries, Karahi, Juices, shakes, coffee and what not! Yes, not to forget the desi sauce/chatni.

PANEERA - KARACHI

Located off main Mohammad Ali Society food street, more reknowned as where Kaybees is, Paneera Fast Food is a delightful experience in itself. Set all alone, with no other restaurants surrounding it and very low foot traffic, one wonders how this restaurant even does business here?! Yet, its been around for almost two years and has created quite a bit of a following in the city. The restaurant hosts two seating areas, one inside and one outside, featuring metal frame furniture which makes the atmosphere seem almost official. The walls are done in light reddish tone, with yellow lighting which make the experience all the more cozy.
So whats so special about paneera then? What every restaurant hopes to have, yet few can master! Good food! The menu hosts a variety of cuisines from Pizza’s to English, Italian, Chineese and our very own desi continental. The standard serving size is for two people, and when the food arrives, it can usually serve upto 3 people easily. To date, i’ve sampled almost 3/4th of their huge menu, and apart from one experience, i have’nt regretted a single choice. The food is absolutely to DIE for!!! every dish is prepared right then and there, which accounts for a *long* wait time. They usually take about half hour to serve even the smallest order, but when it does finally arrive.. the wait seems worth it. Oh! and one thing to start up with, which is my favourite item there! Green fries!!! Its something of a cross between a pakora and a fry with the result being too good for words!!Definately a must try!

Cafe’ Mediterranean - KARACHI

A good dine-out experience is more than a just a good meal.

The ambiance, the service, the menu and yes, the taste, all put together can either make the experience worth remembering, or it can straight-away strike out the eatery.

There are many cafe’s and restaurants that offer good food and menu, however, there’s got to be that ’special’ experience that will want you keep coming back and recommending the place to others.

Cafe’ Mediterranean offers such a package in an all-appropriate price. Although a bit top of the lot price structure, the cafe’ offers excellent ambiance, nice music, quick and attentive service and a filling meal that you’re sure to remember. Located at Zamzama amidst many a dine-out options, the cafe’ will quickly win your vote as being one of the upcoming best around!

I went there on our 1.5th anniversary and we had a memorable candle-lit dinner which will definitely be remembered.

A must recommended place to visit for good food, generous helpings and attentive service.

JADE GARDEN - CLIFTON , KARACHI

The first among the first as far as Chinese restaurant’s are concerned. Jade Garden opened its doors to us Karachites about 15 years ago. Recently though it has been renovated from top to bottom and has reopened to much acclaim. The ambiance is very under the sea with wall to wall built in aquariums and a dim interior. It has an excellent menu of many Chinese varieties with some signature dishes as well. Last time i was there we started off with hot prawn crackers and Thai soup, which is basically a watery blend of lemon and herbs with delicious chunks of chicken mixed in. The owner recommended the schezuan chicken for the main course and he was not far off the mark, it was crunchy it was sizzling and it was gorgeous to look at as well as eat. We also tried the chicken veggy rolls and Mongolian beef with fried rice which were both quite delicious. However to me the best dish was still the old “Manchurian chicken” a fan favorite with Chinese restaurants here in Karachi, no one does this dish better than Jade Garden. As soon as i bit into the first spoonful i was transported back to the days of my teenage hood when we used to pool our money to be able to eat here.

When visiting Karachi or just going out here, do not forget to stop here from time to time, your wallet and taste buds will thank you.

SANIA MIRZA w SHOAIB MALIK

The marriage is sure to attract attention because neighbouring Pakistan and India are longtime rivals, and have fought three wars since 1947.

“The news of me marrying to Sania is true,” Malik posted on Twitter on Tuesday. “Inshallah (God willing) will get married in April.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board has fined and banned Malik for one year for unspecified disciplinary reasons following heavy defeats in both test and limited-overs series against Australia earlier this year.

The 23-year-old Mirza ended a previous engagement to childhood friend Sohrab Mirza in January, citing incompatibility.

She issued a statement Tuesday confirming the marriage plan, but asking for privacy.

“My wedding Inshallah is going to be the biggest day of my life,” she said. “I have been in the media glare for too long and would appreciate a little privacy at this very personal moment in my life.”

Her father, Imran Mirza, said both Sania and Malik will be based in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, but continue to represent their countries in their respective sports.

“This is a unique case where husband and wife will represent their respective countries in sport,” he said in a statement issued in Hyderabad, India, where the family lives.

A local television reported that Mirza, her parents and sister, had applied for a visa at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday and were expected to be issued with a visa of three weeks in duration and valid for 60 days.

Mirza, a two-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion, became the first Indian woman to crack the top 40 in the international tennis rankings, reaching a career high of No. 27 in August 2007. At one time, the Muslim player was assailed by conservative elements of the Indian community for competing in short skirts and sleeveless shirts. She has not advanced beyond the first round in her last four tournaments and withdrew from tournaments in Malaysia and the United States in recent weeks due to a wrist injury. She is currently No. 92 in the rankings.

Malik, 28, was at the centre of marriage controversy five years ago when he was reportedly broke an engagement with Ayesha Siddiqui, who was from Mirza’s hometown in India.

The two had reportedly developed friendship on the internet and Siddiqui’s father had even threatened to take Malik to court.

Malik has denied any serious relationship with Siddique.

The dashing cricketer was also linked with Indian actress Siali Bhagat, and there were reports of the two meeting confidentially in 2008.

News of the Malik-Mirza engagement spread quickly on Tuesday.

It’s not the first time that a Pakistani cricketer will be married to a high-profile Indian woman.

Former test batsman Mohsin Khan, now the national chief selector, married Indian actress Reena Roy in the 1980s. The marriage later broke down.

Newspapers reported that Malik first met Mirza at Hobart, Australia in January, when the Pakistan squad was on tour and Mirza was in the city for a tennis tournament.

“It was after this meeting that Mirza’s engagement with his childhood friend broke,” a local Urdu daily reported.

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India grew more tense after a terrorist attack in the Indian film and financial hub of Mumbai in November, 2008. As a result, the Indian cricket team postponed its scheduled test tour to Pakistan due to security concerns.

The Pakistan government refused permission for its players to join the second edition of the Indian Premier League last year before the lucrative Indian domestic league was moved to South Africa.

Sporting relations deteriorated further when no Pakistani cricketers were picked up by Indian clubs in this year’s auction for the IPL.

Malik played for Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008.

He played 29 test matches for Pakistan and scored 1,517 runs at an average of 36.11. In 190 one-day internationals he has scored 5,141 runs at an average of 34.50 and also took 132 wickets with his off-spin bowling.

Malik lost the captaincy of the national team after Pakistan lost a limited-overs series to Sri Lanka at home last year. —AP
